Dan Sharpe
Dan was born in Toronto and moved to Peterborough in 1963 at the age of 17 to play for the Peterborough Petes. As a youth, he was MVP on several Toronto Hockey League championship teams and was a talented softball player. He had a successful pro career with Houston Apollos and Amarillo Wranglers of the Central Hockey League 1967-1969; the Denver Spurs of the WHL 1969-70; finishing his career with the Muskegon Mohawks of the IHL 1970-74.
He was named to the IHL All Star team twice and was selected to play for the IHL All-Star team against the Swedish Nationals in 1973 and the United States National Team in 1974. Dan played on several local hockey league championship teams where he garnered MVP laurels five times and was selected eight times as Best Defenseman. Dan played in the Peterborough City Men’s Softball League for 17 years (1965-1981). During his career he won seven City League Championships; was the captain of the area fastball team in the Eastern Ontario Fastball League 1975-1978; was in the top 10 in batting average for 11 consecutive years and all three years that he played in the EOFL. He won the Pat Calladine Most Gentlemanly Player Award in 1970, 1971 & 1981. From 1980 to 2000 Dan played slo-pitch in the Men’s City “A” Divisional League, winning 12 titles, a Provincial “C” Championship in 1988 and reached the finals 14 times.
Dan joins his wife Nancy as an honoured member of the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame.
