Allan Marshall
Although Allan Marshall was born in Yorkton, SK, Peterborough was his home during two decades of his athletic prominence. He moved here with his family, at age 10, in 1931.
Swimming was Marshall’s sport, and he was good enough to earn championships at local, provincial, interprovincial and national levels. Among his outstanding achievements: Canadian Champion, 200 metre breast stroke, 1940 to 1952; five Ontario and Quebec records in breast stroke; captain and coach, University of Toronto Senior Water Polo team for three years and Dominion Champions in 1946.
Trent University pool was dedicated to Marshall in 1978, and his record certificates are in showcases at Trent.
Marshall served in the RCAF during World War II, rejoining in 1948 after graduating from the University of Toronto. He died in 1956 in a plane crash during an air show in the U.S.A.
