Steve Self

Born in Peterborough, Steve joins his father Ken and brother Roger, both Hall of Fame Inductees. During his minor hockey career, he was a member of four Provincial Championship teams including three straight from 1966 to 1968. He then attended Colby College in Maine, during which time he was an ECAC Division Two all-star in 1971 and 1972; was team captain for two years; won the league scoring title and named outstanding player and All-American in 1972.

After graduating from Colby, Steve played five seasons of minor pro with one year in Greensboro of the Eastern Hockey League and four with Dayton of the International Hockey League. His career accomplishments included two, fifty goal seasons; twice named to IHL All-Star teams; three All-Star game appearances; team captain in Dayton for two years including the 1976 Turner Cup championship team. In 2005 Steve was inducted into the Dayton Hall of Fame. Steve had a brief stint in 1976 with the Washington Capitals of the NHL.

Steve was a member of the 1978 Mann Cup Champion Peterborough Red Oaks senior lacrosse team.

Since retiring from playing in 1977, Steve has coached at many different levels and has been part of four provincial championship teams, while twice being recognized for his contributions as “Coach of the Year”. In 1990 he received the Ontario College Athletic Association honours for his work with the Fleming College hockey program and, in 2002, was recognized by the Peterborough Minor Petes.
