Robert J. H. (Bob) Rivard
Bob Rivard was born in 1939 in Sherbrooke, QC. After an illustrious minor hockey career he was signed by the Montreal Canadiens and sent to the Peterborough Petes. He played on the Petes’ first Ontario championship team in 1958-59, going on to their first Memorial Cup appearance in Winnipeg. The next season with the Petes, Bob scored 53 points in the regular season and added another 19 points in 12 playoff games. Bob started his professional career with Toledo of the IHL in 1960 registering 45 points in his rookie season. He played four seasons with Fort Wayne of the IHL, winning the league championship twice. He was the IHL’s top scorer with 133 points in the 1965-66 season. Bob was selected to the IHL’s first All-Star team in 1964-65 and the second team the next season.
Bob spent the 1966-67 season with the Quebec Aces of the AHL and was voted the AHL’s Rookie of the Year.
In 1967 he was selected by Pittsburgh in the NHL expansion draft. Bob played 27 games with the Penguins, picking up 17 points, before finishing the season with Baltimore of the AHL where he set an AHL playoff record with 25 total points in 18 games.
Bob spent seven seasons with Baltimore then returned to Fort Wayne to finish his professional playing career in 1975. Bob was inducted into the Fort Wayne Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004.
Bob returned to Peterborough where he played some senior hockey in Lindsay and Oldtimers hockey in the City.
