Condolences to the Family of Inductee Carol Gibson

Our sincere condolences are extended to the family, friends and past teammates of inductee Carol Gibson, who passed away July 20, 2026 at the age of 91.

The matriarch of the Gibson family, Carol (2008), proudly joined her husband Jack (1986) and son Doug (1992) as an honorary inductee. Carol held the rare distinction of being inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame in both the builder and athlete categories. She played or competed in softball, baseball, track and field, figure skating, swimming and diving. Carol gave back to her community as an original member of the Peterborough Church Softball League where she spent more than 45 years coaching and organizing girls and boys softball for Mark Street United Church.

Carol was the beloved Mom of Susan (Craig), Doug (Holly), Rob (Marlene), Larry (Wendy), and Donna. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at Mark Street United Church on Monday July 27th with interment to follow in Rosemount Memorial Gardens.

A Celebration of Life Reception will take place on Monday July 27th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at Highland Park Funeral Centre.

We are honoured that the family has chosen the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame to receive memorial donations, along with Mark Street United church, and the Alzheimer Society.
