Tim Watts

Tim comes from the community of Warsaw. He has participated in more than 750 archery tournaments all over the world. He fell in love with archery at the age of 15 after joining the after-school archery program at Lakefield DSS. There he met Bill Embury, who would not only become his coach, but a life-long friend. Tim’s 1st Major title was the 1989 North American Field Archery Championships in the Junior Boys division. After that, he was hooked on competition archery. In Ontario, there are 5 different archery disciplines. 2 different Indoor Championships – (5-spot and 10 ring), and 3 different outdoor Championships – Target archery, Field archery and 3D archery. Over his archery career, Tim has podiumed more than 100 times at Provincial Championship events. He is a 43-time Ontario Champion, and has been the Provincial Champion in all 5 different disciplines. In 1999, Archery Ontario introduced the Ontario Grand Championship. The archer with the highest combined total score after all 5 Championships are completed, is named that years’ Ontario Grand Champion — a title Tim has earned 21 times during the 26 years of the Grand Championship being contested. At the Canadian National level, there are 4 Championships every year. Indoor, 3D, Target and Field. Tim is a 16-time Canadian National Champion, has medaled 30 times, and is one of the few Canadian archers to win the National Championship in all 4 disciplines. As part of Team Ontario in 2010, Tim won the Canadian 3D Championships in Nova Scotia. Because of this, Tim was named to Team Canada and competed at the 2011 World 3D Championships held in Austria. Proudly representing Canada, he won a silver medal in the Men’s Compound division, and to date is the only Canadian compound archer to win a World 3D Championship medal. Tim’s most memorable year was 2022 when he won the Canadian Championships in all 4 disciplines, Indoor, 3D, Field and Target. As well, he won 3 golds and 2 silvers in the Provincial Championship events, resulting in the Grand Championship title. Tim holds 5 provincial archery records, 1 for indoor target, 2 for field archery and 2 for outdoor target, along with 3 Canadian records, 1 for indoor archery, 1 for outdoor target archery and 1 for field archery. Tim was a part of Archery Ontario’s Board of Directors from 1990-2023 as Tournament Director. A position he held proudly, ensuring that Provincial Championship events were run well. Tim worked for Saugeen Shafts from 1989-2013, an archery retail store that specialized in both bowhunting and target archery sales. The indoor shooting lanes not only helped local archers fine tune their skills and allowed Saugeen Shafts to offer kids lessons. Tim was very involved with this, running lessons every night of the week, and 3 classes on Saturday’s. In 2014, Tim became the Ontario coordinator for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Tim ran the program for 11 years. In 2025 NASP introduced more than 15,000 Ontario kids to this amazing sport as part of their Phys-Ed curriculum. Tim is also a writer for Ontario Out of Doors Magazine, sharing his bowhunting expertise with readers via regular columns and short features.
