Condolences to the Family and friends of G. Roy Armstrong
The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame is saddened to learn of the December 3 2022 passing of 2010 inductee Roy (Army) Armstrong. The pictured collection is currently on display at the Hall to honour Mr. Armstrong.
Although his later years were lived in Clinton, Kentucky, he spent his early days in Peterborough. He was inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame as an “All – Round Athlete” excelling in football, hockey, basketball, running, skiing, softball and swimming!
Roy was an outstanding football player winning COSSA with the PCVS juniors in 1949 and the senior team were COSSA finalists in 1950. He was the leading scorer of the Peterborough Orfuns Football Club who were the Canadian finalists in 1952 and 1954. He won Ontario Football Championships in 1952, ’53, ’54 and ’55 and was a member of the Orfuns Dominion Football Champions in 1955.
