Remembering Fraser Dunfield

Condolences to family and friends of Fraser Dunfield, who passed away September 11, 2020 at the age of 103.

Mr. Dunfield was inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 for his outstanding achievements in the sport of golf. His playing dominance at, and contributions to Kawartha Golf & Country Club is legendary, so much so that he was the recipient of an Honorary Life Membership in 1977. He was still playing in 2019!

The following is an excerpt from Fraser Dunfield’s induction biography:

Born in Toronto, Fraser Dunfield was a big winner before moving here in 1936. As a high school student he was the city champion in hurdles, swimming, softball and hockey, and runner-up in the 100-yard dash.

He played a great game of golf, too, winning the junior title at Humber Valley in 1932. Two years later he won the senior championship at Weston and at age 17 he was the youngest club champion in Ontario.

Fraser’s dominance at the Kawartha Golf and Country Club is well documented: club champion in 1937, 1940, 1943 and 1952; runner-up on four other occasions; match play winner (1943); city medal play winner (1947, 1949); and triumphs in all other qualifiable club events.

At the executive level, he was a Club Director 14 years and President in 1965; member of executive committees 33 years; a Director and Governor of the OGA 17 years. Dunfield received Honorary Life Membership at Kawartha G & CC in 1977 in recognition of his outstanding service.
