Condolences to the Family of Elaine Hewitt

We are saddened to learn of the passing of honoured inductee Elaine Hewitt, elected in 2000 in the ‘Athlete’ category for her incredible athletic career in swimming and track and field. She holds the honour of being the first wheelchair athlete inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame.

Elaine, who competed at local, provincial, national and international levels, posted a world record performance in the 100m breast stroke at the 1986 International Cerebral Palsy Championships in Belgium, where she also won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle swimming competition!

Hewitt was recognized by the City of Peterborough in 1984 as the Female Athlete of The Year.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, November 8, 2024, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., at St John’s Anglican Church, 99 Brock St., Peterborough. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment Little Lake Cemetery.
