Remembering Paul Clancey

The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame extend condolences to Helen and Steve Clancey and their family on the passing of Paul Clancey on Friday, July 29, 2022.  Paul served many years on the Hall of Fame Board of Directors.  He was recognized as an Honourary Inductee in 2013 for his long service and dedication to the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame. Born and raised in Peterborough, Paul grew up playing sports, in particular lacrosse.  He played Jr. A. lacrosse for the Peterborough Petes and was a member of the 1961 Hastings Legionnaires Junior A Minto Cup championship team.  He went on to play a couple of years with the Peterborough Sr. A. lacrosse club. This well-known sportsman was involved in sports in many capacities and was a long-time City of Peterborough employee in the arenas division. He served as manager of the Civic Arena from 1963-67 and went on to manage the Peterborough Memorial Centre. He played an integral role in fundraising and building the Evinrude Centre. Until recently, he was a regular at the Jack Gibson Hall of Fame Golf Tournament.  Paul Clancey will be remembered for many things, he had a mischievous sense of humour, was fun to be around, he knew everybody and told great stories of growing up in the south end of Peterborough.  He was completely dedicated to his wife and family, in particular, his beloved grandchildren. Paul suffered the loss of his daughter Melissa to cancer in May of 2022.  A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
