Remembering James K. (Jim) Orr

Jim OrrThe Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame extend condolences to the family of Jim Orr.  Jim, a well known Peterborough athlete, passed away on March 20, 2016.

Upon his 2003 induction to the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame, it was noted that Jim made impressive contributions to sport at the local, provincial, national and international levels.
In hockey, his greatest contributions were as a referee for 18 years, seven in the OHA. As the first Referee-In-Chief and Technical Director of the Canadian Oldtimers’ Hockey Association he worked with the organizing committees across Canada and as far away as Switzerland, Japan, Holland, Denmark, and Scotland.  In 1987 his contributions were recognized with his induction into the International Oldtimers’ Sports Hall of Fame.
As a member of the Kawartha Golf & Country Club for 48 years, Jim served as President in 1975 and 1984.  He was a director for 18 years during which time he served as Chairman of Junior Golf, Greens, Membership, Director of Golf and six years as Chairman of the Kawartha Lakes Amateur Golf Tournament.
Over a period of more than 40 years Jimmy Orr had a major impact on the Peterborough and district sports scene.
