Trophy Unveiling June 18, 2015
Tonight will be the first night that the Wright Cup and the Tip Top Tailors Trophy have been on display at the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame.
These two trophies were discovered at St. James United Church in February of 2015, and donated to the Hall for safe-keeping and display.
These trophies were awarded in the early 1900’s. Both were awarded to East Peterborough Baseball League: The Wright Cup (donated to the league by Ed Wright) in the 1920’s and the Tip Top Tailors Trophy in the 1930’s.
Winners of the Wright Cup include:
1921 – Keene Baseball Club
1922 – Keene Baseball Club
1923 – Cognawaga Athletic Club
1924 – MacKey’s Bread Baseball Team
1925 – Cognawaga Athletic Club
1926 – Cognawaga Athletic Club
Winners of the Tip Top Tailors Trophy include:
1933 Cognawaga Athletic Club
1934 Cognawaga Athletic Club
Great care has been taken to return these trophies to their original beauty, and we invite you to stop in to the Hall tonight before, during or after the Lakers game and see a little of Peterborough’s newly discovered sporting history.
