Harry Marsh

Harry Marsh was born in Richmond Hill, ON, but moved with his family to Peterborough when he was about four years old. He attended Queen Mary School and PCI, playing football and basketball, hockey, soccer and baseball, his teams winning COSSA championships a couple of times. Later on, Marsh became involved in tennis and golf, but it was as a member of the Peterborough Orfuns where his star shone brightest. He joined that team when it was still intermediate in the Ontario Rugby Football Union, playing centre secondary (middle linebacker) on defense and flying wing on offense. Harry was captain of the team when it moved up to senior ranks but soon left to serve in the Canadian Army during World War II.

Although that senior club had a losing record, Harry fondly recalls that they scored a 3-2 victory over Sarnia in league play; Sarnia went on to win the Grey Cup that year.

A leg injury suffered in warfare ended his gridiron career but he later served on the Orfuns’ Executive. He died in 1997.
