H. V. (Herb) Warr

Herb Warr was born in nearby Westwood, moving to Peterborough at age 17. Following a stint in the Canadian Navy he became involved in minor sports with the City Boys Work Board.

For the next 10 years he worked in many capacities from coach to chairman. In 1957, he became involved with the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League and served as registrar for seven years; his knowledge and efforts contributed greatly in getting Northcrest Arena built in 1966.

Warr was recruited to the Jr. A Petes executive in 1967 and was still there at the time of his election to the Sports Hall of Fame, having served in all capacities from secretary to president, and also as an OHA Governor. Petes won seven OHA titles and one Memorial Cup (1979) during that time.

Herb’s efforts on behalf of the game were recognized in 1993 by the Ontario Hockey League when they awarded him the Bill Long Award for “distinguished and outstanding contribution” to the OHL. He died in 2014.
